Sublocade is an FDA-approved, once-monthly injection of extended-release buprenorphine, used to treat opioid use disorder. Unlike Suboxone or Subutex, which are taken daily under the tongue, Sublocade is a subcutaneous (under-the-skin) injection administered by a member of our clinical team — there’s no daily dosing to manage or remember.
Because it’s injected as a depot that releases medication gradually over weeks, Sublocade must be given in a healthcare setting by a provider. It is not a starting point for treatment — it’s specifically for patients who have already been stabilized on a transmucosal (under-the-tongue) buprenorphine product, such as Suboxone or Subutex, for at least a week before switching over.
